Approval & Accreditation PDF Print E-mail

External (ITP Quality) approval of ITP courses at sub-degree level is not compulsory; however there are circumstances for which ITPs need to demonstrate that a course has been through an external quality assurance process:

  • for some types of funding assistance (see guidelines)
  • where international students are enrolled.

All degree courses must be approved and ITPs accredited prior to delivery.

ITP Quality, under delegated authority from NZQA, is responsible for course approval and accreditation for ITPs. This includes:

  • approval of a course developed by a provider (a local programme) and accreditation to deliver that course;
  • accreditation for unit standards which have been registered on the National Qualifications Framework (administered by NZQA)
  • approval and accreditation of courses leading to National Certificates and/or National Diplomas where international students will be enrolled.

You can download more information on our approval and accreditation processes in Guidelines & Forms.
